small-blue-notebook-cover

This notebook cover was created with the use of heat transfer disperse dyes. The image was created by hand painting the dyes onto thin papers including one with a snakeskin texture. The papers were left to dry and then some dried grasses were placed on the chosen fabric and the dyed paper over the top, colour side down. A domestic iron was used over the back of the dye paper to heat transfer from the paper to the fabric. The grasses act as a resist image, leaving a grass silhouette on the fabric surrounded by the transferred dye colour. The dye colours not just the fabric but also the back of the dried grasses. For the next stage, the grasses are flipped over and laid coloured side down onto a different piece of fabric and then I ripped a few papers in contrasting colours including the snakeskin textured ones over the grasses and again ironed the back to transfer the new colour revealing the image shown, which was completed with some free machine embroidery.
